Ben---
Drinking is the only way to deal with flights so I'd $$. Though I've found international flights generally require vodka drinks + sleeping pill...

Left coast - more than likely. I do have a trip to the middle east scheduled in April. Perhaps between then and the "really freakin hot part" I can get out there, else after the "hot part". I'm hoping this means I can borry a bike and you can school me :)

For every decission I attempt to make that involves change at any level gets put off. So the way I cope with that is I try not to get into any situation that would involve change. To put this into an acctual situation I have gone to get a new TV 3 times and I canot commit. I know it is the change I am avoiding and not just spending the money.

Good question about which category student loan payments belong to. Since we are expected to pay our student loans, they are a fixed expense. This means they should fall into the 60% category. However due to the cost of education lately, these payments can make up a large portion of that. The next place to look would be your long term savings for opportunities. Loans typically cost more than the interest we gain in savings so in the long term it it better to focus on eliminating the debt first, then switching that focus/funds to savings. In general, student loans (unless consolidated into commercial loans) benefit from a little more attention. The interest rates are generally lower than other types of credit, making it advantageous to pay off the higer rate debts before focusing on the student loans.

To summarize, use your fixed expenses category first to pay down debt. If the payments are such that this is not enough, then dip into the savings percent for future opportunities. In dealing with debt, always make sure you pay the minimums, then apply left over funds to the highest rate debt. Keep repeating until you are debt free.
